Braughing Carpet Bowls Club

The Carpet bowls Club began in 1991 following a seminar at Woolmer Green attended by John Howarth and Len Howett, the purpose of which was to promote the use of village halls, then perceived to be generally underused.

The first meetings of the newly formed club were held in the Church Room which, however, proved to be too small and the club very soon transferred to the Pavilion, now called the Community Centre.

The game is played on a carpet 6ft wide and 30ft long and is thus very suited to the limited space available most village halls. The Community Centre conveniently provides room for 2 carpets, or 3 at a pinch. Importantly, it also provides secure storage for the carpets and other equipment.

Since those early days the club has gone from strength to strength and currently has 23 members. It is affiliated to the Herts Carpet Bowls Club and. competes in the county league where it is currently in 1st Division. Several members play regularly in County Matches.

The club meets on Monday evenings at 7.30 pm throughout the year.. Because of the limited space available membership is restricted to a maximum of 26, though no one has yet been refused membership.

Anyone interested in joining the club can simply turn up on a Monday evening where they can be sure of a welcome. You can find out more at the English Carpet Bowls Association here>>>
