At Ralph Sadleir our students follow a rich and full curriculum which includes a comprehensive range of subjects: English, Mathematics, History, Geography, Science, French, Music, Physical Education, Religious Education, Art and Technology (which includes Food Technology, ICT, Craft, Art and Design). Students in Year 8 also study German.
During their first two years, students are taught in mixed ability groups, with the exception of Mathematics where they are placed in groups according to their ability. We expect the lower year groups to spend much of their time in school being taught by their form teacher, but increasingly as they progress through school, they will be taught by specialist teachers so that they will become familiar with the subject centered approach which they will meet in Year 9 and above.
At the start of Year 7 they are placed in groups according to their ability for French, English and Mathematics. This enables us to specifically target the educational needs of all students right across the ability range. Decisions in respect of group setting are taken against a background of general progress in basic subjects, assessments in numeracy, language and work-study skills, as well as teacher recommendation.
At present, a total of twenty-five hours per week are spent on lessons, with additional time for assemblies, breaks and registration.
