Ancestors from Braughing - Cook 2 Years, 5 Months ago
Hello
My name is Richard Cook, I have been doing research into my family tree and it seems my fathers side of the family came from Braughing.James Cook was my Great Grt Grandfather , my Grt grandfather was Ephraim who moved to Tottenham around 1870 - 1880, and my Grandfather was Arthur David. Looking at the census's from 1841 they were living in Green End and Malting lane.If anyone has any information as to whether any Cooks still live in the village, please let me know.
Regards
Rich Cook

Hi - Did you have an ancestor called Peter Cook? I remember there was a Cook family in Braughing and just outside in Hay Street. I think Peter was the local Baker or Postman or travelling fishmonger. He may have lived in a cottage near The Beehive Pub, in Hay Street, or possibly Green End or even at The Post Office. I think that the Post Office is still running - at least it is still running as a shop. The Beehive is a private house now.

Rebecca Green (I used to live in Dassells - my Mother is Mary Green.)

The Braughing Post Office (originally The Bell ph) is still running as a Post Office & village shop. The pub in Hay Street which is now a private house, was the Adam & Eve, a Greene King pub. The Beehive is in Hare Street (next village north of Dassels) and is still open as a pub.

Hi, I cannot locate a Peter Cook in my tree but I do have many Cook ancestors from the village.Do you know when he was born or his fathers name? Check the census's they may help. I understand that some members of the Cook family still live in Braughing.Regards
