On Tuesday 30th August a man claiming to work for the waterboard called at an address in Puckeridge. He asked if he could take some water samples and flashed some sort of identification, but ran off when challenged by the householder.

The male is described as a white male, 16yrs, 5'10", shaven head, wearing white T-shirt tucked into jeans.

The annual Bike Ride to raise funds for the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Historic Churches Trust is on SATURDAY, 10 SEPTEMBER this year. The Trust exists to aid historic churches and chapels of all denominations to maintain their fabrics. It has recently made a substantial donation to the restoration of St Mary's Stocking Pelham. Churches and chapels all over the two counties are open on that day and those who participate may visit as many as they wish by bicycle, on horseback or, particularly appropriate in towns like Bishops Stortford, Ware or Hertford on foot.

It was a pleasure to welcome the Best Kept Village committee and judges and to read in the Mercury that Braughing won the category for ‘the inclusion of older people in village life'. I am pleased that we played a small part in their decision through our efforts to promote our links with the community, this being an area we hope to extend.
