Every-so-often we are fortunate to strike a bargain with the school that follows us into the pool for a swimming lesson on a Friday afternoon, and this happened just before Spring Half Term. Our children were able to benefit from a ‘Long Swim’ enabling them to continue with skills badges but also distance achievements. The stamina of some of our children is truly astonishing and proves the benefit of weekly sessions. Several managed to swim a mile while many more swam many lengths as well as achieving bronze and silver skills awards. This was a magnificent effort and one that made us extremely proud. When our children are on their residential field trip later this term the other school will take our place for a ‘Long Swim’. We wish them similar success. |

Why is Christianity so negative?
March 1st is Ash Wednesday – the beginning of Lent. And as I pondered what I was going to do for Lent, I thought about the message the church is often heard to give. It can be so negative, can’t it? “You’ve got to give up chocolate/TV/puddings for Lent.” “You mustn’t laugh in church – and certainly never wear jeans.” “Don’t drink, don’t smoke…”. And so on.

As is usual at the beginning of term the Staff had an Inset (Training Day) prior to the children returning from their Christmas Break. We have a two-year cycle for First Aid Training and the whole staff arrived for a session that turned out to be full of change. There has been quite a radical review of the procedures and techniques to be used especially for the younger age groups. The new initiatives came into being on 1st January so we were one of the first groups to be trained under the new system and are now totally up to date (until they change it again!). |

What should I do to prepare for driving in bad weather?
- Ensure that your vehicle battery, lights, tyres, wipers and brakes are in good working order to cope with bad weather and winter conditions.
- Ensure that all windows and all lights (front & rear) are clear of frost, ice and mist.
- Allow additional time for journey.
- Warm the vehicle up before driving off.
There is a car in my road with has been there for a few days and seems to be abandoned. What should I do? |
