Despite the heavy wind and rain on Sunday morning of 13 August, the afternoon brought sunshine and pleasure to the funday picnic held at Dassels Bury in Braughing. The theme was pirates and princesses which gave every one of all ages an excuse the dress up for the day. There were lots of games and a hidden treasure hunt around the grounds of Dassels Bury. The Rev Jeanette Gosney, Vicar of Braughing, judged the best dressed pirate and princess who both won prizes for all their effort in dressing up. The stocks were popular, including the super soaker competition where Jeanette kindly agreed to be locked in the stocks whist being soaked by the pirates. The event was a true community day and a wonderful site whilst helping raise funds for the Friends of St Mary’s, said Jeanette.
