On Sunday 25 November, 2007 the Christmas Fair in the Church Hall raised a total of £2033.28. The money raised will go to the "Friends of St Mary's", which is a registered charity charged with raising funds to help maintain and improve the beautiful 13th century church of St Mary's in the village. Over 200 people attended the Fair, open from 1pm to 6pm, where toys, crafts, jams and marmalades, christmas cakes and christmas puddings were available, all made and contributed to by residents of the village. Also, there was a wide selection of home made fudge on sale, with nearly 100 1lb packs sold on the day. The Friends of St Mary's would like to thank all those involved in contributing to the fair, both in terms of producing goods for sale as well as the team who worked very hard on the day to make this such a success. Many thanks also goes to those who took the time to come along to the fair and spend their money. THANK YOU Christmas Fair Team |

At round 08.30 on Sunday 29 July, a senior citizen of our parish was robbed in her own home in Longmans ,off Green Lane. She was knocked over by the burglars and is now in hospital. This is not the first time! Somebody in this Parish knows who is behind these assaults on our elderly and vulnerable citizens. Someone knows of a connection. Somebody can stop this happening. If you know of anything, even the smallest thing, that can help the police with their enquiries, please contact them immediately. Please be aware and without alarming our senior citizens, especially those who live alone, please make them aware and be on their guard. Follow the Police and Neighbourhood Watch guidelines. |

As many folk know, the BPPG came into existence in 2004 primarily to set up an information gathering network on the condition of paths within the Parish, report to the Parish Council on any relevant problems, research the history of local paths and rights of way, organise walks along infrequently walked and unmarked paths and, finally, design a diagrammatic map of the parish and its paths and bridleways. |

Tuesday 24 July 2007 at 8.15pm A Village WorkhouseBy Peter BoylanIn 1834, legislation was passed which changed the way social welfare was provided in this country. Poor Law Unions were created and vast Union Workhouses were built. All parish workhouses were closed and inmates transferred to their local Union Workhouse. Evidence has recently been found of the existence of a parish workhouse in Braughing. Come along and hear about the time leading up to the closure of our workhouse and the people who lived there. All welcome! Members: £1, Guests: £2 |
