Tuesday 24 July 2007 at 8.15pm A Village WorkhouseBy Peter BoylanIn 1834, legislation was passed which changed the way social welfare was provided in this country. Poor Law Unions were created and vast Union Workhouses were built. All parish workhouses were closed and inmates transferred to their local Union Workhouse. Evidence has recently been found of the existence of a parish workhouse in Braughing. Come along and hear about the time leading up to the closure of our workhouse and the people who lived there. All welcome! Members: £1, Guests: £2
