Parish Paths - Update Print E-mail

As many folk know, the BPPG came into existence in 2004 primarily to set up an information gathering network on the condition of paths within the Parish, report to the Parish Council on any relevant problems, research the history of local paths and rights of way, organise walks along infrequently walked and unmarked paths and, finally, design a diagrammatic map of the parish and its paths and bridleways.

As anyone who uses the many paths and bridleways within the Parish knows, they are now in a good state of repair and all waymarkers in place - nature being what it is, though, tidying up and repairs are ongoing, so should you notice anything which looks as though it needs attention please contact Christine [details below].

A committee meets regularly to discuss any reports of the poor state of any right of way and to progress the map.  Small working groups come together when necessary to ensure that rights of way are clearly marked and, where appropriate, some maintenance may be carried out.  The committee works closely with a representive of Hertfordshire County Council who, we are pleased to say, respond swiftly to requests for maintenance which fall beyond the scope of local pairs of hands.
The map is now at the final draft stage and quotations have been obtained for its design and print.  However, you will not be surprised to learn that progress beyond this stage is unknown.  Due to the efforts of one member of the committee the funds for producing the map – approximately £3,000 – have been given a kick start of £500.  Sue Dailly [chairman] has been applying for grants left, right and centre but, so far, no joy.  The Braughing Parish Council would like to contribute but finds its budget already allocated.

So, although we realise there are many good causes pleading their cases these days may we add our name to your list?
The first-Sunday-in-the-month walks are now a regular feature.  They are well-supported and good fun - even those who have lived in Braughing for yonks are making fresh discoveries.  Meet in the Square by 2.00pm prompt on the first Sunday in the month, April – October.  A couple of winter walks are planned, so, if you’re interested, keep an eye on the magazine and posters in the shop and around the village.
