Felicia was born in Lincolnshire the fourth oldest of six children. In her early years she attended Cheltenham Ladies College and then went to Eastbourne Domestic College to be ‘finished off ’ and learn to cook. By 1939 she had met her future husband Tony, WW 2 was threatening and he was living and working in India, Felicia took the last civilian boat out to Calcutta where they were married. Two of her children Jenny and Gillian were born there and after India gained independence in 1947 they moved to Iraq where Tony found employment with an engineering company under the Shah. Miranda her third daughter was born in Baghdad. In 1955 the family came to Braughing living in the Causeway House, no one who knew her will doubt the impact and the contribution she made to the village in so many ways. She recognised the need for a social club for the retired people in the village and in 1960 formed the Golden Age Club. She donated the land for 7 retirement units at Orchard House and was on the management committee up to the time of her death. Felicia lived a full, exciting and fascinating life. In 1972 she drove to Kathmandu in a second-hand Ford Transit. She worked tirelessly for UNICEF and the Red Cross; on reaching 65 years of age she became a guide at Hatfield House. She loved the village church and served on the PCC and various sub-committees, some of her intricate needlecraft can be seen in the church today. She will be remembered by her many village friends as a lovely wonderful person who will be greatly missed. JG |
