There were 38 exhibitors at the annual Spring Show on Saturday 12th April, displaying over 200 entries. Secretary Marion Saunders said that it was an enjoyable show with a lovely village atmosphere and the glorious sunshine attracted many visitors to the Show.  Despite cold and stormy weather before the show, there was a good display of Spring flowers including daffodils, narcissi and tulips; as well as flowering shrubs.

In the vegetable classes, there was an abundance of prize leeks on display- Braughing’s weather giving perfect leek- growing conditions this year! Domestic classes continued to be well supported, accounting for approximately a quarter of exhibits.

The society’s Chairman, Chris Napp won the Simpson Cup for the best flower exhibit with her splendid vase of bulbous flowers.  The flower voucher for the best flower arrangement was won by Marjorie Howard.

The egg classes continue to attract a lot of interest, reflecting a marked increase in hen keeping around the village.  All 3 classes were won by Braughing’s ‘egg fairy’, Sandra Lynch.

Prizes were presented by Evelyn Piggott, the Society’s Vice-President.  Evelyn has been a member of the horticultural society since it’s inception in 1941.Flower, fruit and vegetable classes were judged by Norman Smith from Widford.  Domestic classes were judged by cookery expert Joyce Spackman and local gamekeeper’s wife Christine Reynolds judged the egg classes.

The society would like to thank Joan Stacey for organising the raffle and Martin Slack for the auction of produce.
