HIGHWAY LIGHTING Print E-mail

Improvement of existing highway and footpath lighting has, for some time, been under serious consideration by the Parish Council and as a result of the Community Plan Questionnaire a display of different styles of street lighting has been on view at the Parish AGM and the Church Hall Sunday Teas as well as through personal contact and emails.  The intention has been to establish the design most favoured for use in the parish as a whole.

The most popular design is shown here and it is intended that this will be used when older (particularly concrete) lights are placed on the B1368 as well as The Street and surrounding areas.

Herts Highways are responsible for the 1368 and have indicated a willingness to use the style chosen by the parish.  The Street and adjoining area is the responsibility of the parish and the Parish Council are now considering which of the light units need to be replaced within the parish budget currently available.

Views on two other issues were also sought:

“Are any additional lights required?”.  Generally no further lighting was considered necessary apart from some key areas e.g. Ford Street, between the memorial and the farm; close to The Bone etc.

“Do you agree that lighting should be switched off between 1.00 a.m. and 6.00 a.m. to conserve energy”.  To this there was a resounding “yes”.

If you have any comments or issues that you would like to raise on this topic please contact either David Williamson 01763 289999 or Graham Frary 01920 821715. The next phase will be discussed at the Parish Council Meeting in June.

Also, as part of the Community Plan process, various other projects are currently being considered and will be reported upon separately as they progress.
