Congregational Church Anniversary

The 217th anniversary of the Braughing and Puckeridge Congregational Church was celebrated on Wednesday. It opened with a special afternoon service in the Century Hall, Puckeridge, when the Rev H Varley, of Howes Park, preached a cheering sermon. Afterwards, conveyances were in readiness to convey the congregation to Braughing Hall, where about a hundred sat down to tea. In the evening, there was a public meeting to the Braughing Chapel, when the chair was occupied by Mr OE Fox of Woodford, and addresses were also delivered by the Rev H Varley, Rev John Wood, of Bishop Stortford, and the Rev K Bristow of Royston. During the evening, Miss Constance Fletcher sang with marked expression "Angels, ever bright and fair."
