Members of 22 organisations in Braughing met near the allotments today to plant fruit and nut trees in the Braughing Community Orchard. The event was organised by the 3 Villages Eco Group with donations from Councillors Jane Pitman and David Andrews from their Locality Fund. The land has been made available by the Braughing Parish Council who recently entered into a 21 year lease on the site. The 22 trees planted so far are all traditional varieties from Hertfordshire grown by the Rivers Nursery. Each tree has been 'adopted' by a local organisation. See here for list of trees and adoptees.

On Sunday 13th December at 3.30 some of Braughing’s bellringers took part in the 350.org campaign for climate justice. Ringers all around the world have been ringing 350 changes of the bells to draw attention to the current climate talks in Copenhagen. Many scientists, climate experts and national governments are now saying that our atmosphere currently contains 385ppm (parts per million) of carbon dioxide. They are pushing for a safe upper limit of 350ppm to reduce the impact of climate change. To find out more about the importance of the number 350 and what it means for climate change do look at www.350.org. Mamma Mia Evening Saturday 24th saw the Church Hall transformed into a Greek Island. It was the night everyone had been waiting for, Mamma Mia hit Braughing. What an amazing evening it was, the church hall echoed with the sound of everyone singing to all the top hits from the film. Many were dressed as Abba characters or simply in Greek Island holiday outfits. There was truly a great sense of happiness, bring together all ages in joy and community. In total we raised £1623 which was an amazing sum. |

On Saturday 24 October 2009, the Braughing Bellringers organised a Mamma Mia evening held in the Church Hall in the village. Eighy two tickets were sold within ten days of going on sale in September. Everyone came along and joined in the spirit of the evening. Some dressed as Greek holidaymakers, some dressed as members of ABBA and others dressed in fab 70's gear. Everyone joined in with the Mamma Mia singalong in the first half, followed by dinner. After dinner, there was a demonstration of Greek Dancing by special guest Angelo followed by audience participation, when everyone was up dancing. The night concluded with dancing to some of the old ABBA favourites. Great fun was had by all. The event was held to raise money for the Friends of St Mary's Church, Braughing to pay for maintenance of the church building as well as improvements in the fabric of Church. More than £1600 was raised on the evening from ticket sales, a raffle and a bar. (It is worth nothing that bar takings were more than double our last event!!) A big thank you to everyone involved in planning and executing the event on the night. Without you, this sort of success could not be achieved. Please see the Photo Gallery for a selection of photographs from the evening taken by Marion Saunders. Click here |
