Braughing Parish Council Election

Following the recent resignations of Cllr Kathryn Riley on 22nd September and Cllr Martin Gooch on 25th September from Braughing Parish Council, the clerk to the council followed due process and notified East Herts Council of these vacancies. A notice of the two vacancies was made by East Herts Council and advertised for 21 days.

If during that time a request for an election to fill those vacancies is made in writing to the Returning Officer at East Herts Council by ten local government electors for Braughing Parish, an election will be held to fill those vacancies, otherwise the parish council will fill the vacancies by co-option.

On 20th October, the Returning Officer received ten letters from the following local government electors for Braughing Parish requesting an election:

1.     Francis King
2.     Anita King
3.     Paul Moore
4.     Paula Moore
5.     Graham Purse
6.     Lesley Purse
7.     Michael Saunders
8.     Marion Saunders
9.     Peter Tatlow
10.   Jessica Tatlow

A Notice of Election is published on Thursday 4 November 2021, following which nominations will be open from 9am on Friday 5 November until 4pm on Friday 12 November 2021. Click here >>> to see the Notice of Election.

Nomination packs are available from Belinda Irons, parish clerk here >>> or from East Herts Council, at the address below. To be validly nominated, all completed Nomination Papers must be delivered by hand to the Returning Officer's staff at East Herts Council, Wallfields, Pegs Lane, Hertford, SG13 8EQ during office hours before the deadline above.

If there are more than two nominations received, this will lead to a by-election being held on Thursday 9th December 2021

As residents of Braughing parish, we all need to consider whether becoming a councillor is something we could do to positively contribute to the community in which we live.

I would strongly urge anybody who may be interested, to have an initial conversation with Belinda Irons, the parish clerk or indeed any of the parish councillors. I am also available to have a conversation with anyone who may be interested.

There is a charge to the parish council for costs associated with managing an election, funded from the council tax you pay. Braughing Parish Council have been charged £3,168.55 for the election held in September this year.

Therefore, if a by-election does take place on Thursday 9th December, please use your vote. If you know you are not going to be able to cast your vote on the day, do please apply for a postal vote. For more information and for details on how to apply for a postal vote click here >>

Many thanks
